Local Governments (Sleman and Central Java province) extend the emergency response phase for 14 days more from November 24th, 2010. It was decided because the ALERT status is not changed yet; IDPs are still big in number, and the economic sector is not yet recovered. Sleman Government will be responsible to take care IDPs and economic and infrastructure recovery.

The Governor of Central Java Province said that government would provide security food for the survivors. IDR 5,000 will be given to every survivor per day for six months by the government. But the fund will be available every three months. Beside, government has already budgeted IDR 4,7 billion to provide temporary shelters for the IDPs.

Beside Merapi, Bromo Volcano in East Java is in the ALERT level since the raised of volcanic activities. The eruption type of Bromo is freatic (gas, water, and ash). It is different with Merapi that also spread sand and stones. In 2004, two tourists who were visiting Bromo caldera, were killed due to the suddenly the eruption of Bromo. Now, people are prohibited to reach Bromo Volcano under 3 km from the peak.

B. Coordination

·Klaten and Boyolali parishes are no longer need assistance from KARINAKAS because they have sufficient relief items for the survivors. Moreover, the survivors have returned to their home already. Those two parishes are now considering assisting to them. KARINAKAS will be contacted to conduct coordination for the next step of emergency response.

·IDPs in Sumber Parish area that have returned, find that their village lack of clean water. Many spring water are destroyed by the volcanic materials. KARINAKAS in cooperation with Sumber Parish will conduct water rehabilitation assistance to those areas. Now, our volunteers are in the process of assessment and will provide the data. The water rehabilitation purpose is to flow the water from the available spring to the nearest hamlet.

·KARINAKAS distribution process now through selected parishes in large quantities. The relief items are provided for five days a head. If the quantities are not sufficient, parishes still have opportunity to ask KARINAKAS providing the relief items as long as the fund is available. The relief item that required by the survivors is food item. They have already got hygene kit and non-food item.

·According to KARINAKAS’ proposal to Caritas Internationalis Member Organization, the budget from CIMOs will be implemented until November 23rd. Now, KARINAKAS is implementing funds from local donation. Proposal EA for the second phase has been submitted to Caritas Internationalis.
