The secondary disaster is cold lava floods. The cold lava actually is volcanic material that comes along the river. Stone, sand, mud, fallen trees, and other material are now fulfilling every river tipped in the volcano. Since there is no more space for water flow, when rain falls heavily, cold lava flood will be happened. Thousands meter cubic of volcanic material, come with the water to the lower areas and will struck everything near the river.

November 27th, Code River that pass through Yogyakarta City, was flooded. Hundreds of civilians that live near the bank of the river were evacuated to Gadjah Mada University campus and to some other places. Fortunately, the civilians have conducted community management – disaster risk reduction since several years ago. There are no casualties or injured victim found since communication and coordination among the civilians, local leader, and government. The flood was started at 05.00 pm. It was stopped around 09.00 pm.

December 1st, the flood was struck Magelang District areas. Pabelan Bridge that connects Magelang and Yogyakarta in Muntilan area was closed for 3 hours due to the flood. Volcanic material that flows has made the bridge shiver. It was dangerous to let any vehicle pass the bridge. Traffic jam was 5 km long. The cold lava flood destructs four bridges in Magelang areas, i.e: Sawangan Bridge, Daleman Bridge, Srowol Bridge, and Gondosuli Bridge.

It is reported also that volcanic material has reached some paddy fields in Salam Sub district. Around 30 hectares of paddy fields were covered with stone, sand, and mud. At least four new IDPs post were located in Salam Parish areas.

Indonesian Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises promised to grant clearance loan for survivors who still have soft loan to government. The ministry will also rebuilt 15 traditional markets that destroyed by the eruption. The ministry has provided 59 trillion rupiahs for the economic rehabilitation of three disasters in Indonesia (Wasior Flood, Tsunami in Mentawai, and Merapi Eruption). On December 1st, the government has started to buy 3.811 cows from the survivors in four districts (Sleman, Magelang, Klaten, and Boyolali).
